IMG_3994.jpg

Did you know that in 2017-18, 1 in 13 Australians ages 18 and over met the recommended serve of vegetables they should have each day? (Stats from the Australian bureau of statistics)

The average person should try to eat 5 serves of veggies a day however that doesn’t mean 5 vegetables a day!
According to eat for health the stranded serve of veggies is approximately 75g.

Recommendations also say that you should be consuming 30 plant foods a week. When I say plant foods I’m not meaning just fruit and veg, I also mean grain foods (quinoa, rice, pasta, breads), legumes, tofu and tempeh, nuts, seeds etc.
Easy?
There are so many options and if you are meeting the recommended serves of fruit (2) and veggies (5) then your probably smashing this. But this recommendation is also suggesting to consume a variety of different plant foods.

By doing this it will help with gut health as these foods are fibre rich. It will help with hunger levels as fibre helps satisfy you and keep you fuller for longer, it helps stabilise blood sugar levels, provides energy/ fuel, some contain protein, they are both macro and micro nutrient dense. .

Everyone should aim to consume a variety of different types of vegetables in their diet; and for a balanced diet a variety of foods from all the 5 food groups.

this is the 5 food groups and is called “The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating” and can be found on the eatforhealth.gov.au website
